Over the years I’ve covered multiple PA Sprint Car Speedweek events but no more than four races each season. 2020 presented an opportunity to really experience the ‘week’ aspect of Speedweek. Seven out of nine races later and I’m completely burnt out. Late nights quickly turned into early mornings attempting to deliver images in a timely manner all while keeping a normal work schedule. I can only imagine how grueling the nine race series must have been for teams. I could barely handle three nights of four hours sleep before I needed a night off. No rainouts meant no nights off for the teams. Increasing temperatures and humidity as the week wore on further added to the challenge. At the end of the day I can truly say I enjoyed the experience as much as I missed my bed.

As for the racing it was anything but boring. Hard charging invaders raised the bar for the locals. Great fan support emphasized how each round has become a ‘must see’ event. Kyle Larson started slow but went on a tear winning four of the last five races to take the Speedweek crown.

Enjoy my take on the 2020 version of PA Sprint Car Speedweek.
